KULGAM, APRIL 9: Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said Pakistan played a significant role in securing a ceasefire between Iran and the US, helping avert large-scale devastation, while voicing concern over escalating tensions in West Asia.
Addressing party workers in Kulgam, the PDP president said it was “difficult for many to even mention Pakistan,” but credited it for facilitating the ceasefire. She, however, expressed uncertainty over how long the truce would hold, cautioning that actions by Israel could disrupt fragile peace efforts.
Referring to the evolving situation involving Iran and Israel, Mehbooba warned that loss of control by world leaders could worsen the crisis. “We believe that ultimately justice and peace will prevail,” she said.
Emphasizing faith and resilience, she expressed hope that “truth and justice will win in the end,” while urging calm and understanding during challenging times.
Highlighting local concerns, she said people continue to live under fear and uncertainty. “People are not just afraid of conflict, but also of the situation around them. These concerns need to be addressed with sensitivity,” she added.
Calling for restraint, the PDP leader urged all stakeholders to prioritise dialogue, stressing that peace, stability and harmony must remain paramount.
