Kulgam, March 13: Authorities in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district have decided to take strict action against the growing issue of child labour, begging, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Shahzad Alam (IAS) said the administration is closely monitoring the situation and has already reviewed the functioning of the Social Welfare Department and Child Helpline in the district to strengthen the protection of vulnerable children.

Speaking to reporters, the DC said that the district administration has been receiving complaints regarding incidents of child begging in different areas of Kulgam. He emphasized that the authorities will take the matter seriously and ensure immediate action wherever such cases are reported.

“We have already reviewed the functioning of the Social Welfare Department and the Child Helpline to ensure better protection for children in distress.

The complaints we are receiving regarding child begging will be sensitively addressed, and strict action will be taken against those responsible,” he said
