Kulgam, March 12: A joint market inspection was carried out in Manzgam and Aharbal areas of Kulgam district during the holy month of Ramadan to ensure food safety and hygiene standards for the public.

The inspection was conducted by officials from the Food Safety Department, Police, Revenue, and CAPD. During the drive, several shops and food outlets were checked to verify the quality and standard of food items being sold in the markets.

Officials lifted five legal samples of various bakery and milk products for laboratory testing to ensure they meet the standards set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

During the inspection, authorities also found certain violations related to food safety regulations. As a result, compound cases amounting to ₹10,000 were recommended for prosecution under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Officials said the inspection drive was conducted especially in view of Ramadan, when the consumption of bakery, dairy, and other food products increases significantly. They urged shopkeepers to maintain proper hygiene, display valid licenses, and strictly follow food safety norms.

Authorities also warned that strict action will be taken against violators, and such inspection drives will continue across markets to safeguard public health during the holy month.
