Says special teams have been constituted for inspections to check power theft; Whosoever found involved in rampant hooking and connecting electricity lines of their own will face the music

Kulgam, Dec 16: Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) Sub-Division On Saturday appealed to the consumers to make judicious use of electricity in their households, offices and business centres.

Talking to media, AEE, Mohd Yousuf Mir, urged the people to minimize the use of heavy power consuming devices like crude heaters/boilers, electric cook-tops, etc. within households especially during peak demand hours and use the electricity to the limit of agreement with KPDCL.

He also stated that there are 4.5 hours power curtailment in metered areas on a daily basis and 8 hour’s in non-metered areas regularly.

He further stated that special teams have been constituted for inspections to book those resorting to illegal hooking and using crude heating gadgets including banned nichrome-based, in a bid to reduce soaring energy demand in winter.

“So far inspection teams conducted surprise inspections in many areas of Qazigund belt and  fines in terms of Section 126 of the Electricity Act for unauthorised use of power have been imposed on such consumers.”, he said.

Confirming positive outcomes of accelerated inspection and disconnection drives, Mir said such drives will continue which are aimed at preventing energy losses and enhancing revenue collection from defaulting consumers. “There have been many positive takeaways from such drives. This will help us in adhering to power curtailment schedule and extending comfort to the genuine consumers,” he assured.

He also warned that legal action shall be taken against offenders who are found involved in rampant hooking and connecting electricity lines of their own.
