Qazigund, Mar 14: Ahead of the holy night of Shab-e-Qadr, the local administration on Saturday carried out a joint market inspection in Qazigund to ensure smooth availability of essential commodities and prevent overpricing during the festive period.
The inspection drive was led by Tehsildar Shakeel Ahmad Ganie and was conducted in coordination with officials from the Police and the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.
During the inspection, several markets and shops across the town were checked to monitor prices, quality of food items, hygiene standards, and compliance with government regulations.
Authorities also interacted with shopkeepers and urged them to maintain transparency in pricing and ensure quality products for consumers, especially during the holy month.
Officials said that action was taken against several violators for overcharging and other irregularities. A total fine of ₹19,500 was imposed on erring shopkeepers for violating market regulations.
The team reiterated that such inspection drives will continue in the coming days to curb unfair trade practices and ensure that the public does not face any inconvenience during the holy period.
Authorities also appealed to traders to strictly adhere to government guidelines and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found exploiting consumers.
