Property worth lakhs destroyed; Families seeks compensation from Admin
Kulgam, Jan 3: A devastating fire incident on Wednesday night at Gundbal area of Frisal in Kulgam district has left two families homeless, reducing a residential house into ashes.
An official told that the fire originated in a two storied residential house owned by Jahangir Ahmad Pala and Ab Majeed Pala, sons of Abdul Aziz Palla residents of Gundbal Frisal. It then spread to the two story Jamia Masjid causes massive damage to its rooftop.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident, but the flames completely consumed the double-storied residential house.
The official stated that until the fire was brought under control, two families found themselves without shelter, with property worth lakhs destroyed.
“We have taken notice of the incident and are working to determine the cause of the fire”, he added.
“It was around 11PM we were sleeping and we had no idea what happened. And when we woke up, we saw huge flames coming out. We called the Fire Service Department, but within no time our house got completely damaged, leaving us homeless,” said a sister of twin brothers.
“We have been left penniless and homeless. You can see for yourself that our house has been completely damaged and all our belongings were completely destroyed”, she said.
“I hope and pray that the government takes note of our sufferings and compensates us,” she added.
Meanwhile, Locals also appealed to the district administration Kulgam to provide compensation to the affected families.
