Kulgam, Aug 20: Illegal parking of vehicles and encroachment along footpaths by shopkeepers and street vendors have choked the Qazigund market, thereby causing huge inconveniences to the general public.
“The choking of roads and footpaths in the Qazigund market which is already facing a space crunch leads to frequent traffic jams in the main market”, locals said.
“One side shopkeepers and street vendors have occupied the footpaths and on the other hand people park their vehicles illegally on the roadside, thereby leaving no space for pedestrians who are forced to walk in the middle of the road”, they said.
“We have many times apprised the municipal committee Qazigund and other concerned authorities but they have failed to act on the ground”, they added.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Traffic, Kulgam Mohd Aslam when asked about the wrong parking vehicles said that they are going to launch special drive against the traffic violators in coming days, adding, vehicles found illegally parked will be seized.
On the other Hand, Executive Officer Municipality Committee Qazigund, Irfan Ahmad said he would look into it the matter, when asked about the footpaths encroached by shopkeepers and street vendors.
