Kulgam, Apr 1: Hundreds of employees working under the National Health Mission (NHM) on Wednesday observed a two-day pen-down strike at District Hospital Kulgam, demanding fulfillment of their long-pending demands.
The protest, held under the leadership of the District President NHM Kulgam, witnessed employees raising slogans in support of equal pay for equal work, pay revision and social security benefits for NHM staff and managers.
The protesting employees said they have been serving the health sector for years and have played a crucial role in strengthening healthcare delivery, particularly during emergencies and public health programmes, but their demands have remained unaddressed.
They urged the Government to take immediate steps to resolve their issues and ensure job security and fair compensation for NHM workers.
Meanwhile, Chief Spokesperson Abdul Rauoof said that despite repeated efforts, the genuine concerns of NHM employees continue to be ignored.
He termed the strike as a strong assertion of their rights and dignity and called for immediate intervention, especially during the ongoing Assembly session.
Highlighting the concerns of retiring employees, he said many are left without financial security after years of service.
The association reiterated that the protest is peaceful and democratic, warning that the agitation may be intensified if their demands are not met.
The day concluded with employees pledging to continue their struggle until their demands are fulfilled.
