Srinagar, May 4: A nomadic woman from Reasi district, who was temporarily residing in the Nishat area of Srinagar, died after reportedly being assaulted by two individuals in an inebriated state who attempted to rape her, police sources said on Saturday.
According to initial reports, the woman sustained critical injuries during the alleged assault. She was immediately shifted to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Police have arrested one of the accused, a resident of Nishat, while his accomplice from Sumbal Sonawari remains absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the second individual.
A police official confirmed that a case has been registered and investigations are ongoing. [KNT]
