Teacher Shortage Hits Kund Belt Schools, Students Bear the Brunt

Kulgam, Mar 27: Students in the Kund belt of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district are grappling with serious academic challenges due to an acute shortage of teaching staff, with locals raising alarm over the deteriorating education scenario.

Residents of the hilly region said several schools are operating with minimal staff as teachers originally posted there have been deputed to other institutions. They alleged that due to the tough terrain, many teachers seek postings in town areas and manage transfers or deputations through influence, leaving Kund schools understaffed.

Locals further stated that despite the existing shortage, more teachers continue to be shifted out on deputation, worsening the crisis and severely impacting the quality of education.

“Students are the worst sufferers. Classes often remain unattended, and syllabus completion is getting delayed,” a local resident said, expressing concern over the future of hundreds of students.

The persistent lack of adequate teaching staff has disrupted regular classroom activities, forcing students to cope without proper academic guidance.

Residents have urged the administration and Education Minister Sakina Itoo to take immediate cognizance of the issue and ensure proper deployment of teachers across schools in the Kund belt.

They appealed for urgent intervention to streamline the education system in the area and prevent further academic losses for students due to administrative lapses.
