Qazigund, Dec 10: In a proud moment for south Kashmir, two budding cricketers from Qazigund belt have earned their places in the upcoming Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) Season 3, marking a major breakthrough for grassroots cricket talent in the belt.

Asif Mughal, son of Mohd Ayoub Mughal, a promising all-rounder from Nussu Badragund, Qazigund, has been bought by Delhi Superstrikers for ₹3 lakh during the high-voltage ISPL auction. Known locally for his consistency, and sharp gameplay.

Asif said “Hard work is the key to every achievement, I went unsold twice, but I never stopped working. Ups and downs are part of life. Nothing can be achieved by sitting idle”.

“Government must support budding players so they can showcase their abilities on bigger platforms”, he said.

Similarly, Majid Yousuf Sheikh son of Mohd Yousuf Sheikh, the all rounder cricketer from Panzath, Qazigund, has also scripted history by being picked up by Ahmedabad Lions, for ₹3 lakh. His selection is being hailed as a reward for years of hard work, dedication, and unwavering passion for the sport.

“I always believed hard work pays off. Getting selected this year is a huge moment for me. I will give my best. My dream is to wear the Indian jersey one day.”, he said.

DDC Member Vessu Qazigund, Bilal Ahmad Deva, said “It is a happy moment not only for this area but for the whole district as two cricketers from this belt have been selected for ISPL. I congratulate them and their parents for providing the platform and support.”

“For the past 5—8 years, playfields have been constructed in every village in Qazigund belt, but they are not in proper condition. I urge the Government to look into it so that our youngsters get the right facilities to shine at national and international levels”.
