Kulgam, Oct 11: The Geology and Mining department Kulgam has taken strict action against illegal mining, extraction, and transportation of raw materials in various areas of Kulgam district. During raids conducted in the month of September, a total of 25 vehicles, including JCBs, were seized.
An official told that under the supervision of DMO Kulgam, they have crackdown against the illegal mining, and seized 25 vehicles include 4 JCBs, 15 tractors, 4 Dumper and 2 tipper involved in illegal mining in the district.
“Fines of totaling Rs 5 lakh were imposed for various offenses related to illegal mining. The department conducted raids both during the day and night to apprehend offenders”, he said.
“No leniency will be provided to those trying to loot natural resources and causing irreparable damage to the ecology” he added.
