Qazigund, Apr 20: Government Degree College (GDC) Qazigund, in collaboration with the National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE), organised a workshop on “Financial Awareness and Consumer Training (FACT)” under the NMBA campaign.

The programme, conducted by the College Lifelong Learning Club (CLLC), aimed at promoting financial literacy and fostering a drug-free environment among youth. Around 100 students from various departments participated in the workshop.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof (Dr.) Sudhir Singh highlighted that financial distress often makes youth vulnerable to substance abuse. He stressed that financial literacy empowers individuals to make informed decisions and reduces the likelihood of falling into drug use. He also underscored the importance of quality education, financial discipline and responsible money management.

NCFE trainer Sabzar Ahmad, who served as the resource person, delivered detailed sessions on digital payments such as UPI and BHIM, investment options including NPS, and methods to avoid online fraud and debt traps. He also educated students about consumer grievance redressal mechanisms and the role of regulatory bodies like SEBI and RBI.
CLLC Coordinator Prof. Aufaq Ahmad Zargar emphasised that financial planning builds a future-oriented mindset and acts as a strong deterrent against drug abuse.

He noted that responsible financial behaviour reflects discipline and self-awareness.

Earlier, Prof. Nehad Kaniz Fatima introduced the theme and spoke on the role of financial literacy in achieving financial independence.

The workshop concluded with an interactive session, witnessing active participation from students and faculty members.
