Kulgam, Jun 26: Altaf Memorial Government Degree College (AMGDC), Kilam on Wednesday observed the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.’ The college organized a program to educate participants about the hazardous effects of drugs and also sensitized shopkeepers to the issue.
The programme was organized by the NSS unit and NCORD committee of the college headed by Prof. Naik Yasira and was attended by teaching and non-teaching faculty, as well as students.
Prof. Shabir Ahmad Padder, Principal of AMGDC, welcomed the participants and enlightened them about the hazardous effects of drug abuse, urging students to steer clear of this menace.
Prof. Suhail Salam, H.O.D of Education, emphasized that drugs are not a solution to life’s challenges.
Prof. Kowser Ahmad Ganai, H.O.D of History, informed participants about the role of society and the state in curbing this alarming menace. Prof. Dr. Mohd. Hussain, H.O.D of Urdu, delivered the vote of thanks.
The daylong seminar was followed by a rally in which both faculty and students enthusiastically participated. Starting from the college campus, the rally culminated at the main Kilam market.
“During the rally, students and faculty raised slogans against drug abuse. The aim was to raise awareness among shopkeepers and passersby about the ill-effects of this menace,” the statement reads.
