
Qazigund, Apr 4: Qazigund, popularly known as the ‘Gateway of Kashmir’, has renewed its demand for the grant of hill district status, citing its unique geographical location and growing strategic importance as a major road and rail transit hub.
Local legislator Adv. Abdul Majeed Larmi, along with former legislator Mohammad Amin Bhat and others local leaders, has strongly advocated for according hill district status to Qazigund.
They were joined by members of civil society and the local trade body, who stressed that the area’s historical relevance and terrain justify the demand.
The stakeholders said that granting hill district status would help address long-pending developmental concerns and ensure focused administrative attention towards the region. They also highlighted that Qazigund serves as a crucial entry point to the Valley, playing a vital role in connectivity and economic activities.
Urging the administration to take a proactive approach, the representatives called for immediate consideration of their demand, stating that such a move would boost infrastructure development and improve public services in the area.
