Kupwara, Oct 23: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan today chaired a meeting of all concerned officers to review the winter preparations of various departments ahead of the upcoming winter season.
Addressing the meeting, the DC stressed upon the officers to work with greater coordination and utmost dedication on ground so that the people may not face any inconvenience due to severe weather conditions. She directed the officers to submit their detailed action plans regarding their winter preparations in the district.
She impressed upon the officers to gear up their men and machinery to tackle any situation in case of heavy snowfall, besides, monitoring the situation closely.
On the occasion, the DC took detailed feedback from all the departments regarding their preparations for the winter season.
She directed for activation of the District Control Room at Kupwara consisting of officials from all essential departments for timely redressal of the grievances of the people. She also directed the officers of essential departments including R&B and PDD to establish department level control room to attend to the distressed calls from the people during heavy snowfall.
Regarding snow clearance, SE R&B Kupwara informed the chair that the department has a target of 1757 Kms which will be cleared during the snowfall in the coming winter period. Besides, the 270 kms target of snow clearance has also been set by the BEACON.
The DC asked the concerned engineers to make proper analysis of the machinery requirements. She directed the concerned to take special review of snow clearance of border areas of Machill and Keran so that the local people do not suffer due to snowfall.
Regarding essential commodities, the chair was informed that 33250 quintal rice, 1283 quintal Atta, 900 quintal sugar and 4100 gas cylinders have been dumped in the cut off areas of Karnah, Keran, Machill, Budnamal and Jumagund.
While taking review of medicines, the chair was informed that adequate medicines have been stored in the snow bound areas to be used during the winter period.
Reviewing the power scenario, it was informed that 90% pruning of trees has already been done to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the people. It was also informed that buffer stock of 60 transformers in Electric Division Kupwara and 57 transformers in Electric Division Handwara have been kept for replacing damaged transformers.
Regarding availability of firewood, it was informed that 4000 quintal firewood in each forest division of Kamraj and Kehmil will be kept available in different depots.
Reviewing the Jal Shakti, the DC was informed that 11 tankers have been kept available to tackle any freezing situation in the hardest winter period. She directed the concerned engineers to keep their DG Sets functional to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the people.
The DC also took a review of Helicopter service, Fire & Emergency and SDRF cases during the meeting.
SE R&B, SDMs, ACD Kupwara, CPO, CMO, Executive Engineers of R&B, PMGSY, PDD, besides, officers from Police, Army, BEACON and other concerned officials attended the meeting.(GNS)
