Kulgam, Jan 22: Amid forecasts of heavy rain and snowfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, the district administration Kulgam has put all necessary arrangements in place to effectively deal with winter-related challenges, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Amir Khan, said on Thursday.

The DC was speaking to reporters after reviewing the availability and preparedness of machinery at the Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) Kulgam. He said the administration is fully prepared to respond to any eventuality arising due to adverse weather conditions.

“All basic arrangements are in place. A total of 25 snow clearance machines have been kept in ready mode along with trained operators, adequate fuel supply, and logistical support,” the DC said.

“To ensure swift response during snowfall, the administration has already pre-positioned snow clearance machinery in upper reaches of Kulgam, so that operations can begin immediately without waiting for equipment to be dispatched from district headquarter” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that KPDCL teams have also been put on high alert to promptly address any disruption in power supply due to snowfall or strong winds. “Electricity teams are ready to restore power lines in case of any disturbance,” he added.

He added that around 232 women with expected delivery dates during the winter period have already been accommodated in hospitals in advance to prevent any inconvenience due to road blockages or severe weather conditions.

In order to ensure smooth snow clearance operations, Snow Clearance Control Rooms have been established at Chawalgam, Kulgam, and Bathipora. The public can contact the Mechanical Control Rooms on the following numbers: 01931-294167, 9622446646, 7006219884, and 7889390253.

Additionally, people can reach the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) / 24×7 District Control Room, Kulgam, on helpline numbers 01931-295900 and 9103424365 for any emergency assistance.

The DC appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather and cooperate with the administration. He assured that the district administration remains vigilant and committed to ensuring the safety and convenience of the public during the winter season.

Accompanying the Deputy Commissioner during the review were Additional Deputy Commissioner Viqar Ahmed Giri, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Riyaz Ahmad Shah, and other senior officers.
