(Devsar) Kulgam Sep 14: Former member of Jamati-e-islamia and an independent candidate for Devsar assembly seat, Nazir Ahmad Bhat on Saturday said Jamaat-e-Islami Distanced Itself from Elections due to 1987 Rigging in Jammu and Kashmir.
While, addressing a workers convention at Devsar, he said, rigging” of the 1987 elections disappointed the Jamaat cadre. “Jamaat decided that we will boycott all elections till the Government of India guarantees us of holding free and fair elections. adding due to the free and fair recently Lok sabha elections which gave us the courage to contest the assembly elections here”, he said.
“The victory of a jailed candidate, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, against established mainstream leaders, such as Omar Abdullah and Sajjad Lone, from Baramulla came as a proof of fair and free polls in J&K” he said.
“We will abide by the Constitution of India but will not shy away from talking about oppression and the rights of the people. We will become promoters and supporters of peace. You will have to support us,” he said.
“Committed to enhancing the overall quality of life in Devsar Constituency by focusing on infrastructure improvements, better public services, and economic growth opportunities, adding we would change the future of Devsar and create such an atmosphere in the constituency where everyone can live peacefully”, Bhat said.
“We are receiving positive response from people and which indicates that victory would be ours in the upcoming elections in the constituency”, he said when asked about his election feedback.
