Kulgam, Oct 21: With deep respect and national pride, Police Commemoration Day was observed today in Kulgam, where the district came together to honour the gallant police and security personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The ceremonial observance, held at the District Police Lines, was marked by a dignified wreath-laying ceremony. Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, and Senior Superintendent of Police Anayat Ali Choudhary, alongside other senior officers, dignitaries, and families of martyrs, gathered to pay homage to the brave hearts.

As floral tributes were offered, the names of 101 police and security personnel from the district who laid down their lives while upholding law, order, and national integrity were remembered with profound reverence. A poignant silence filled the air as attendees stood in unified respect, honouring the courage and dedication of those lost.

The event served not only as a moment of remembrance but also as a powerful reminder of the unwavering commitment of the men and women in uniform, who continue to stand as the first line of defence in times of crisis.

The presence of the martyrs’ families added emotional depth to the occasion, underscoring the human cost of peace and security that the nation often takes for granted.

Police Commemoration Day, observed annually on October 21 across the country, marks the sacrifices of security personnel and reinforces the nation’s gratitude toward its protectors — a sentiment felt deeply and expressed wholeheartedly today in Kulgam.

Later, SSP Kulgam also inaugurated a 10-Day Sports Event under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) at DPL Kulgam in memory of the martyrs. The event aims to promote youth engagement, sportsmanship, and communal harmony while paying tribute to the spirit of sacrifice of the police personnel.

The day concluded with renewed resolve among all ranks of Kulgam Police to uphold peace, serve the people selflessly, and honor the legacy of the martyrs through commitment, professionalism, and compassion.
