Kulgam, May 12: The 2nd National Lok Adalat was held on Saturday in Kulgam, which settled 304 cases amicably, while an amount of Rs.1,59,23,400 was awarded in different settlement cases.
According to the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kulgam, the 2nd national Lok Adalat was held under the auspices of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and in pursuance of the direction of J & K Legal Services Authority, under the chairmanship of Pervaiz Iqbal (Incharge PDJ Kulgam and Chairman DLSA Kulgam).
A member of the DLSA said that the Lok Adalat was inaugurated by the Chairman DLSA in the presence of the Sub Judge and Secretary of the DLSA Kulgam, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kulgam, the Additional Mobile Magistrate of Kulgam, and the Bar members of Kulgam.
He said that six benches were constituted, four at the headquarters and one each at D.H.Pora and Qazigund.
“Bench Number one was presided over by Pervaiz Iqbal (Incharge Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman DLSA Kulgam), assisted by Basit Farooq (Asst. LADC Kulgam), while Bench Number two was presided over by Abdul Qayoom Mir (Chief Judicial Magistrate Kulgam), assisted by Arshid Hussain Baba (Bar President). Bench Number three was presided over by Tabassum Qadir Parray (Sub Judge and Secretary DLSA Kulgam), assisted by Adv Kaiser Makeen, while Bench Number four was presided over by Muneer Ahmed Bhat (Additional Mobile Magistrate Kulgam), assisted by Roshan Aara (Deputy Chief LADC).
He said that in the said Lok Adalat, a total number of 743 cases related to Motor Accidents Claims Tribunals (MACT) cases, family disputes, revenue cases, traffic challans, bank cases, electricity cases, and water bills were taken up.
“Out of which 304 cases were amicably settled. An amount of Rs.1,59,23,400 was awarded in different cases, including Rs.52.00 lakh in one MACT Case titled Farida Gul v/s Wassim Dhobi,” he said, adding that the basic role in settling the MACT case was played by Jahangeer Hussain, Law Officer, Bajaj Allianz, with Firdous Gull Standing Counsel.
