Kulgam, Jan 19: Devsar witnessed a significant development push as MLA Devsar, Peerzada Faroz Ahmed Shah, along with the Executive Engineer R&B Kulgam, AEE R&B Devsar and Executive Officer MC Devsar, laid the foundation stone of key infrastructure projects worth ₹3.10 crore.

The projects include a Drainage System worth ₹2.6 crore and Beautification of Devsar at a cost of ₹56 lakh, both aimed at improving civic amenities and the town’s overall outlook.

Speaking to the media, the MLA said these works were a long-pending demand of the residents, which has now been fulfilled.

He expressed gratitude to the R&B Department Kulgam and the executing contractor for starting the works promptly, adding that the projects are being implemented on a fast-track basis under his personal monitoring

He said that if people are uncomfortable living in town areas, it becomes the responsibility of the government to address the issues. In this regard, he informed that he has taken up the matter with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and has also submitted a formal letter seeking the removal of town status of Devsar and Frisal, both falling under his constituency.

“Far-flung areas like Devsar deserve backward area status, especially when around 80% of the population falls under BPL and AAY categories”, he said questioned the rationale behind granting twin town status under such circumstances.

The MLA further said that the upcoming budget will bring multiple benefits for the people, with several announcements expected to address public needs and development priorities.
