Kulgam, Apr 3: Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kulgam, Dr. Showkat Hussain Parray, on Friday said that the PM-RAHAT scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will provide cashless treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh to road accident victims in the district.
He said the initiative is aimed at ensuring timely medical assistance, particularly in accident-prone areas along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), from Navyug Tunnel Qazigund to Bijbhera, which has witnessed frequent mishaps over the years.
Parray informed that multiple healthcare institutions in Kulgam have been empanelled under the scheme, including Emergency Hospital Qazigund, PHC Qazigund, LG Pora, Qaimoh, Yaripora, DH Pora and District Hospital Kulgam, besides some private hospitals.
“Under the scheme, victims of road accidents involving motor vehicles will be entitled to free treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for a period of seven days from the date of the accident, irrespective of the type of road,” he said.
He added that awareness teams are actively working on the ground to inform the public about the benefits of the scheme.
The CMO also urged people to dial 112 in case of accidents to avail timely and cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals.
