Reports – Yasir Yousuf

Kulgam,11 May: Residents of Qaimoh in South kashmir’s Kulgam district raise concerns over high electricity bills despite consuming less power. The residents claim that they have been paying exorbitant tariffs for the past few months, even though their electricity consumption has remained unchanged.

Many residents have expressed their frustration, stating that they have been paying bills that are almost double their usual amount. They call on the authorities to investigate the issue and provide a solution.
However, some residents also mention discrepancies in their electricity bills. Showkat Yousuf, a resident of Qaimoh, shared that he received a bill of Rupees 7503 last month, alleged due to some ambiguity in the smart meters.

These concerns raise questions about the accuracy and effectiveness of the new meters. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether the benefits of the new meters outweigh the potential drawbacks.
“We demand the intervention of the district administration in response to what they describe as “error bills” for electricity. Despite regularly paying their electricity bills after installation of smart meters in their homes, some residents are receiving bills for significantly more than their actual power consumption, ” Said Zubair Ahmad, a local resident of Qaimoh.

In response to these concerns, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Power Development Department (PDD) Javaid Ahmad in Kulgam, has assured the residents that he will look into the matter at first priority. He has also requested the residents to provide him with their bills and consumption details for further investigation.

The residents are hopeful that the AEE’s intervention will bring about a positive change in their situation and ensure that they are not overcharged for their electricity consumption. They are also urging the concerned authorities to take action to address the issue and prevent such occurrences from happening in the future.
