Kulgam, Jan 25: Several remote hamlets of Kulgam district remained cut off on Sunday as residents accused the administration of failing to clear snow-covered roads, resulting in severe inconvenience amid harsh winter conditions.
Locals from areas including Nowbugh–Waltangoo Ziyarat Shareef, Vasaknag–Waltangoo Nard, Brinel Lammer, Hallan, and other interior link roads said snow clearance has yet to be undertaken, leaving entire hamlets virtually inaccessible.
Residents complained that even pedestrian movement has become difficult due to the absence of cleared footpaths. “The administration appears to have forgotten us.
Despite improvement in weather, no action has been taken, forcing us to depend on God’s mercy,” locals said, expressing frustration over the delay.
Meanwhile, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Kulgam, Khurshid Abdullah, acknowledged the problem and assured that snow clearance operations are underway. He said efforts are being made to restore connectivity on all affected roads by evening.
