3-day marathon expo begins at Indoor Stadium; Marathon to attract 59 international athletes, many from India: Director Tourism, Kashmir Raja Yaqoob
Srinagar, Oct Director of Tourism Kashmir Raja Yaqoob on Thursday said the much-awaited “International Marathon” in Kashmir is scheduled for October 20.He said the marathon will feature two types of races, a 42-kilometer full marathon and a 21-kilometer half marathon.Speaking to the media in Srinagar during the Kashmir Marathon Expo, starting today and running until October 19, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the marathon will kick off from Mughal Darbar Polo View and traverse through the beautiful routes of MA Road to Boulevard Road, continuing along the foreshore road to Naseem Bagh, Kashmir University, before returning to the starting point for a finish.He said with over 2,000 registrations, the marathon has attracted approximately 59 international athletes, along with participants from other states and Union Territories across India.“Visitors will have the opportunity to experience Kashmir’s rich culture through its handicrafts, handloom, horticulture, and agriculture, alongside the region’s breathtaking beauty,” he said.He added that a showcase of renowned Kashmiri products including handloom items, honey, saffron, almonds, and walnuts will be on display for guests, highlighting not only the beautiful landscapes but also the rich heritage and unique offerings of the region.Notably, the three-day Kashmir Marathon Expo started today at the Indoor Stadium, from today until October 19, and after the end of the expo, the Kashmir International Marathon is scheduled for October 20—Sunday.According to information collected by KNO, the start and finish point for the 2024 Kashmir Marathon is at Polo View in Srinagar.The full marathon will begin at 6:15 AM, followed by the half marathon at 6:35 AM, with participants required to arrive by 5 AM. The marathon route will pass through some of Kashmir’s most beautiful and scenic areas, including Dal Lake, Boulevard Drive, Nishat Garden, Hazratbal Shrine, and the Zabarwan mountain range.“Race kits, which include a bib number and timing chip, can be collected at Indoor Hall, Polo Ground, Srinagar, from October 17 today–19, between 10 AM and 5 PM.”
