Kulgam, Jan 24: In view of the ongoing closure of the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH44) due to adverse weather conditions, SSP Kulgam, Anayat Ali Chowdhury (IPS) visited the Qazigund stretch along NH44 on Saturday to oversee traffic regulations and ensure the safety of stranded commuters and tourists.
SSP was accompanied by ASP NHW Qazigund Mumtaz Ali Bhatti, SDPO Qazigund, and DySP Traffic Qazigund Kulgam, and SHO Qazigund who jointly monitored traffic management and coordinated with on-ground staff to maintain order.
He said that the inspection aimed to ensure smooth traffic flow in the limited open stretches, prevent accidents, and provide guidance to tourists and commuters stranded due to the highway closure. Special attention was given to vulnerable passengers, including families and elderly travelers.
“The safety of tourists and commuters remains our top priority. Teams are actively managing traffic, guiding stranded vehicles, and ensuring that no untoward incident occurs during this period of disruption,” SSP Kulgam told.
Authorities urged travelers to exercise caution, follow traffic advisories, and cooperate with law enforcement and traffic officials until normalcy is restored on NH44.
