Kulgam, Feb 24: The Two- days winter carnival, to showcase the beauty of Kulgam for its recreational and adventure potential begins today with a colourful start from the Snow-covered Aharbal tourist destination in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The district administration organized the event in collaboration with Aharbal Development Authority, Tourism Department, and Forest Division Kulgam. There were also snow games at this event, such as snow rugby, snow volleyball, snow runs for peace, snow skiing, and tug-of-war.
Tourism at Aharbal tourist spot, which is also famous for its waterfall, will be improved as a result of this step taken by the administration. Everyone was looking forward to these games. Kulgam local says, “This is very encouraging and promising from the government. The tourism sector is an emerging and potential one. There are many beautiful places other than Gulmarg that need to be explored.”
The event was attended by DIG South Kashmir Altaf Ahmad Khan (IPS), DDC Chairperson, Mohd Afzal Parrey, DC kulgam Athar Aamir Khan (IAS), Principal session judge kulgam Mohd Ashraf bhat, SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal (IPS), DDC members and local people and sports persons and officers from civil and Police administration.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Kulgam Athar Aamir Khan, said that the tourism destination in Kulgam has huge potential to attract tourists which needs to be fully exploited.
He also added that facilities are being developed at various unexplored tourism destinations to provide much wider choice to the tourists.
DIG Altaf Ahmad Khan, while praising the beauty of Aharbal and other unexplored destinations of Kulgam, urged the tourists to visit these areas.
DDC Chairperson, Mohd Afzal ,said that the initiative of organizing this winter carnival is to promote winter tourism activities in unexplored scenic places, destinations of the district and to boost the tourism sector in Kulgam. adding that Two Lakh tourists visited Aharbal in 2023.
Snow games which were inaugurated and played today at Aharbal include Snow Rugby, Snow Volleyball, Snow Runs for peace, Snow skiing, Tug of war etc and such Snow events/games were carried out here in Aharbal.
Gender neutral games also included multiple Snow games viz. Snow Volleyball, Tug of War etc and gained attention and appreciation of people at large.
