Two days ‘Winter Carnival’ concludes with felicitation ceremony at Aharbal Kulgam

Event witnesses overwhelming participation of students, tourists, locals; Festival aimed to promote tourism sector & boost economy in the district, says DC Kulgam

Kulgam, Feb 25: The two-day Kulgam winter carnival to showcase the beauty of Kulgam and harness its adventure potential concludes on Sunday with a colorful felicitation ceremony at the snow-covered Aharbal in south Kashmiri’s Kulgam district.

The event was organized by the district administration in collaboration with Aharbal Development Authority, Tourism department and Forest Division Kulgam.

The ‘Winter Carnival’ was attended by a galaxy of participants from different walks of life besides sports enthusiasts and trekkers.

To encourage and felicitate the trekkers, skiers and participants of other games who enthusiastically participated in this event, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kulgam, Viqar Ahmad Giri and other seniors officers of district administration felicitated them with certificates, medals and mementoes.

“It is very cheering and promising from the government. The tourism sector is an emerging and potential sector. There are many beautiful places other than Gulmarg that are needed to be explored”, a local said.

Pertinently, throughout these two days Aharbal remained abuzz with Snow sports activities which include Snow Cricket, Snow Rugby, Run for peace, Snow Volleyball, Tug of war and other games.

Notably, The Winter Carnival was jointly inaugurated by Chairperson, District Development Council (DDC) Kulgam, Mohammad Afzal Parrey; Deputy Inspector General (DIG South), Altaf Ahmad Khan; Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan.

Addressing the public DC Kulgam said that Aharbal and other tourism destinations in Kulgam have huge potential to attract tourists and the Winter Carnival is an initiative to promote winter tourism in unexplored scenic places, destinations of the district and to boost the tourism sector in Kulgam.
