Sunil Sharma Claims NC-Led Government ‘Breaking Apart,’ Predicts Political Instability

Srinagar, May 31: Leader of Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Sunday claimed that the Omar Abdullah-led government was facing serious internal divisions and alleged that attempts were underway to prevent political instability within the ruling establishment.

The remarks signaled a sharp political escalation between the opposition BJP and the ruling National Conference-led dispensation, with Sharma alleging growing discord and questioning the government’s cohesion.

Addressing reporters, Sharma claimed that the ruling party was “virtually broken and dismantled,” though he stopped short of asserting that the government had already collapsed.

“I am not saying the party will break, but it is almost broken,” Sharma said.

The BJP leader alleged that a meeting scheduled for June 3 was being convened as an effort to contain internal differences and “save a sinking ship.”

Drawing comparisons with an earlier political gathering, Sharma referred to a dinner meeting allegedly hosted by the Deputy Chief Minister and claimed that disagreements had surfaced among participants there as well.

In a personal political attack, Sharma described Omar Abdullah as a “Tourist-in-Chief” and alleged that the Chief Minister had remained absent from public visibility for nearly two weeks.

He further claimed that the Abdullah family would go to any extent to retain political power and asserted that Omar Abdullah would not resign under any circumstances. “Even if Omar Abdullah is offered a smaller institution or lower-status position, he would accept it as long as protocol remains intact.”

“Mark my words, Omar Abdullah will never resign,” Sharma said, while predicting future political developments and claiming that instability within the government would become visible soon. [KNT]
