Kulgam, June 2, 2023: Illegal commercial complexes are being constructed in the Brazloo area of Kulgam district, raising concerns about unauthorized development. The owners of these structures have been alerted by local authorities, but they have failed to adhere to the guidelines provided. The administration has been informed about the ongoing violations, urging prompt action to address this issue.
The tranquil town of Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir has been shaken by the rampant construction of illegal commercial complexes in the Brazloo area. Despite repeated notices from concerned officials, the owners of these structures have shown a blatant disregard for the rules and regulations.
Mohd iqbal sofi, the owner of one of the under-construction complexes, expressed his concerns to Kashmir Glacier, stating, “Unabated illegal construction of structures is taking place in this area, such things keep happening. I have personally submitted a written statement to the administration, stating that in the event of road widening, I do not require any compensation if my structure is to be dismantled.”
Adding to the gravity of the situation, Abdul Rehman, the owner of another structure, revealed, “I informed the relevant officials several years ago about the construction of my structure, and they even visited the site. However, we have yet to receive any notice regarding the illegality of the construction. It is alarming to note that there are approximately 50 such structures in the Kulgam district.”
Nowshad Ahmad, an Assistant Executive Engineer at R&B, reiterated the strict measures that would be implemented against those found guilty of violating the Prevention of RD Act. “If any individual or entity is found to be in violation of the Act, rest assured that action will be taken,” Nowshad emphasized. “Such violators will be held accountable for their actions, and their structures will be demolished, putting the burden of the cost and risk entirely on them.”
Archid Bhat, Junior Engineer at NH444, told kashmir glacier that, “We have also issued notices to the owners of these illegally constructed complexes. Regrettably, they have chosen to ignore our warnings. We have escalated the matter to higher authorities for their attention and action.”
Bhat, sounded the alarm regarding the concern of illegally constructed complexes, added that NH444 remains dedicated to ensuring the legality and safety of all construction projects within its jurisdiction. The involvement of higher authorities will likely expedite the resolution of this pressing matter and serve as a deterrent to potential violators in the future.
Tehsildar Kulgam, Bilal Ahmad, has assured Kashmir Glacier that he will personally investigate the matter and take appropriate action. He emphasized the importance of upholding the law and stated, “I am committed to addressing this issue promptly and ensure that necessary measures are taken to rectify the situation.”
