Kulgam, Jan 19: Traffic Police sector Kulgam–Qazigund recorded notable achievements in traffic enforcement, regulation and road safety during the year 2025 under the leadership of DySP Traffic Mohd Aslam and the direct supervision of SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir S. Ravinder Pal Singh. The consistent efforts of all officers and jawans resulted in visible improvement in traffic discipline and public safety across the district.
In a statement issued here, it stated that in year 2025, the Traffic Police issued a total of 36,492 challans, realizing a fine amount of ₹1,59,07,900, while 186 vehicles were seized for various violations. Most importantly, the sector witnessed a 20 percent reduction in road accidents as compared to the previous year, reflecting the impact of focused enforcement and preventive measures. Alongside enforcement, 269 awareness programmes were conducted and 1,197 special drives were launched to curb violations and promote road safety.
Traffic management remained a major priority during high-pressure periods such as the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and the peak fruit season, when smooth movement of pilgrims and fruit-laden vehicles was crucial. To ensure safety and regulation, barricades were installed on NH-44 from Nowyug Tunnel to Alstop Crossing, as well as in Khudawani Town and Kulgam Town, including Gantagar to Sangus Crossing and Hospital Road. Night traffic regulation was strengthened through the use of reflective jackets and handheld signaling equipment.
Special enforcement drives were conducted against rash driving and stunt riding, while crash barriers were erected at vulnerable and accident-prone locations to prevent mishaps and ensure hassle-free regulation. Increased enforcement was deployed in identified black spots, and continuous monitoring helped improve compliance on major routes.
Awareness remained a cornerstone of traffic management, with programmes conducted in schools, colleges and transport stands, particularly targeting students and drivers to educate them about traffic laws and safe driving practices. With the support of the Municipal Committee Kulgam and other departments, new parking facilities were created in Kulgam Town to ease congestion.
Removal of vendors and encroachments from roads and footpaths across Kulgam towns emerged as a major achievement, significantly improving traffic flow. The Traffic Wing followed a zero-tolerance policy against visible offences such as non-wearing of helmets, triple riding, dangerous driving, juvenile driving, overloading in public service vehicles, and vehicles operating without fitness.
The Traffic Police received an encouraging and positive response from the general public, transporters, drivers and civil society, which played a vital role in achieving the desired results. A key factor behind the success in 2025 was the outstanding cooperation from print, electronic and social media, which consistently helped in conveying traffic awareness messages to the public.
The Traffic Wing also acknowledged strong support from the District Police, District Administration, and departments connected with transport, which ensured smooth implementation of enforcement and management measures at every level.
Looking ahead to 2026, Traffic Police Sector Kulgam–Qazigund reaffirmed its commitment to further improve hassle-free traffic movement and work towards a traffic-violation-free society, with enhanced traffic management in Kulgam Town, Qazigund Town, other towns and rural areas of District Kulgam.
