Kulgam, March 18: In a major push to strengthen grassroots healthcare, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Tuesday inaugurated a 50-bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospital at Chawalgam in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Constructed at an estimated cost of ₹7.40 crore, the facility marks a significant step toward blending traditional healing systems with modern medical care. The hospital aims to expand access to affordable and inclusive healthcare for residents across Kulgam and adjoining areas.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering equitable healthcare to every citizen. She emphasized that integrating Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, and Homeopathy (AYUSH) with conventional medicine will not only widen treatment options but also revive time-tested indigenous practices.

“This hospital reflects our vision of a diversified healthcare system that respects tradition while embracing innovation,” she said.

The newly established hospital is equipped with inpatient wards, outpatient departments, Panchakarma therapy units, diagnostic facilities, yoga and wellness centres, and dedicated consultation spaces, ensuring comprehensive patient care under one roof.
Highlighting the role of AYUSH in preventive healthcare, Sakeena Itoo noted its importance in lifestyle management, chronic disease care, and immunity enhancement. She added that the institution will also serve as a hub for health awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes.

MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Alam, and other senior officials were present on the occasion. They praised the initiative and highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the district’s healthcare infrastructure.

The Minister assured that necessary manpower and resources will be provided for the smooth functioning of the hospital. She also announced that road macadamization and landscaping work around the facility will be taken up soon.

Reiterating the government’s focus on the health sector, she stated that significant strides have been made over the past 18 months to improve healthcare delivery, especially in rural and underserved areas.
