Kulgam, Mar 18: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Wednesday said that the legacy of veteran leader Wali Mohammad Itoo continues to live on, with people still showing immense love and respect for him.
Speaking to reporters in DH Pora Kulgam, on the sidelines of the 32nd death anniversary of the former leader, in the presence of senior leadership of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and other dignitaries.
“Even today, people have so much love and passion for Wali Mohammad Itoo. Despite rain, cold and harsh conditions, people remained seated, which reflects their deep connection with him,” he said.
He said that Itoo’s legacy is being strongly carried forward by his daughter Sakina Itoo, expressing hope that she will fulfil the aspirations and dreams of the people.
“DH Pora is fortunate to have his brave daughter leading the people. We pray she gets strength to carry forward this legacy and fulfil the unfulfilled dreams of her father,” he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister urged people to stand firmly behind the party leadership, including Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, saying public support is essential for strengthening the party.
Speaking on global conflicts, he said the world is witnessing turmoil and reiterated that war is not a solution. “Leaders must reflect on the direction in which the world is heading. Dialogue and love are the only way forward,” he said, referring to views expressed by leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He also expressed confidence in the judiciary, saying that justice will prevail and appreciated recent decisions taken by courts.
Responding to a query regarding pending salaries, he said that the matter will be looked into and appropriate steps will be taken if any department has not received dues.
Extending greetings, he congratulated people on the upcoming festivals of Eid and Navratri, highlighting Jammu and Kashmir’s tradition of communal harmony. “This is the beauty of our land where people celebrate together in unity,” he said.
The programme was attended by several leaders including Minister Satish Sharma, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi, and other MLAs, party workers and supporters.
