
Qazigund, June 28: The First batch of pilgrims for Amarnath Yatra reached at Navyug tunnel in Qazigund on Friday morning.
An official told Voice of India that first batch of 4603 pilgrims were welcomed by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam Athar Amir Khan along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Sahil Sarangal and other officials from civil and police.
“They are travelling in small and big vehicles comprising 231 vehicles escorted by heavy security”, he said.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Amir Khan talking to media persons said “today we welcomed pilgrims in Qazigund who are with a convoy. The pilgrims have now moved towards their destination. Our security arrangements are in place. As per need, extra deployment has been made at places”, he said.
The Yatra began earlier today from Jammu where Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha flagged them from the Amarnath Yatra base camp amid tight security arrangements made by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with the army and the local police.
On this occasion, DC along with SSP and locals flagged them off towards Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The 62-day Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to start from 29th June and continue till August 19.
