Devsar (Kulgam) Jan 18: In a remarkable achievement for Jammu and Kashmir’s sporting landscape, 11-year-old Mujtaba Hassan son of Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat from Manigam area of Devsar in South Kashmiri’s Kulgam district,, has been selected to represent India at the 2nd Asian Junior Soft Tennis Championship (Under-15), scheduled to be held at Harvest Academy, Ludhiana (Punjab), from February 3 to 8, 2026.

Despite his young age, Mujtaba has already carved a niche for himself through sheer dedication, discipline, and consistent performances.

Having taken up soft tennis in 2022 while studying at Dream Land Educational Institute, Vessu, he has rapidly risen through the ranks, emerging as one of the most promising grassroots talents from the region.

Mujtaba has competed in multiple district and UT-level championships, securing gold and silver medals, and has proudly represented Jammu and Kashmir at national championships held in Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Srinagar. His selection for the Asian championship marks a major milestone, not just for him, but for the growing sports culture in south Kashmir.

Expressing his determination ahead of the continental event, Mujtaba said, “I will try my level best to prove my mettle wherever I get an opportunity.” He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Amateur Soft Tennis Association of J&K, the Soft Tennis Federation of India, his coaches, and mentors for their constant guidance and belief in his potential.

Local sports infrastructure, including the soft tennis court established at Vessu by the 46 Battalion, has played a key role in nurturing young talent like Mujtaba, offering regular practice opportunities at the grassroots level.

Mujtaba Hassan’s journey from a small village in Kulgam to the Asian stage stands as a powerful reminder that talent, when backed by support and opportunity, knows no boundaries. As he prepares to don the national colours, hopes are high across Kashmir that the young prodigy will deliver a strong performance and bring pride to India.
