Srinagar, March 5: Life across Kashmir remained disrupted on Thursday as the ongoing internet blockade continued to affect businesses, students, and daily transactions following the reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli strike.

Authorities have imposed restrictions in several parts of the Valley to prevent any escalation amid heightened tensions.

The suspension of internet services, particularly high-speed connectivity, has left thousands of students struggling ahead of crucial board and competitive examinations scheduled in the coming weeks. Students preparing for various academic and professional entrance tests said the shutdown has severely hampered their preparation, as online resources, mock tests, and digital study materials have become central to modern exam readiness.

“We rely heavily on online lectures, e-books, and application portals. With the internet snapped, we are unable to complete forms or access study content. Our careers are being put at risk,” said a group of aggrieved students, urging authorities to restore services at the earliest.

“In today’s world, preparation is impossible without connectivity. It feels like our future is buffering,” said a student preparing for upcoming entrance examinations.

Parents also expressed concern, stating that prolonged disruptions could impact academic performance and increase anxiety among examinees.

The business sector has also reported losses due to the suspension. Traders said digital transactions, online banking, and supply chain communications have been disrupted. A trader from Qazigund said that most business operations now depend on internet connectivity.

“We are unable to carry out online payments or coordinate with suppliers. Daily losses are mounting,” he said.

A senior govt official stated that the restoration of 5G services will be considered after a thorough assessment of the ground situation. “We are closely monitoring developments. Services are likely to resume in the coming days,” he said.

Meanwhile, security has been visibly tightened. Authorities have restricted non-essential inter-district movement in parts of central Kashmir and deployed additional forces in sensitive areas, particularly where strong sentiments were anticipated. Officials maintain the measures are preventive, aimed at maintaining public order during a period of heightened emotions.
