Srinagar, Jul 05: A young woman from Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been visiting Srinagar on a daily basis to run her outlet in Srinagar City so as to earn a livelihood.

Afroza Banoo (34), daughter of Ghulam Rasool Malik, a resident of Nihalpora Pattan is running her outlet at Govt Women’s hut in Dalgate so as to manage livelihood for herself and bear the expenses of her children.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Afroza Banoo said that she has been associated with Kashmir art for around the last two decades now and has been knowing needle and Ari work very well.

She said that she joined the Umeed scheme under the NRLM department and is running an outlet where she is selling shawls, suits, curtain covers and many other things.

“I have been going to home in the evening and returning every morning but I have been earning my livelihood very well and have been bearing expenses of my children, who are around 7 and 9 years old studying in a private school,” she said.

Afroza said that she had met tragedies including divorce and accident in her life but she never lost hope and remained steadfast to stand on her own legs.

She said that rural women must associate themselves with Umeed and other government schemes to stand on their own legs.

“Once the women learn to stand on their own legs, they will become financially independent and can create employment opportunities for others as well,” she said.

In her message to the rural women, she advised them to leave shyness and take advantage of government schemes so as to stand on their own legs and become financially independent—(KNO)
