Illegal soil extraction goes on unabated in Kund area, admin silent

Strict action will be taken against the persons found involved in this practice, says DMO Kulgam

Kulgam, Dec 25: Illegal extraction of soil, goes on unabated at Kund Mode in Devsar area of Kulgam district, with the authorities acting as mere spectators, Locals said.

The extraction, using heavy machinery, They said that the mafia seems to have no fear of the administration and is openly excavating and transporting the mined soil to different areas in Kulgam “And it is not only the health hazards, they are also making our life difficult with the constant noise of the machinery and the vehicles throughout the day and night,” the locals said.

“As per Section 133-A of J&K Land Revenue Act, excavation of soil is banned for personal gains. Locals said the continuous plying of loaded tippers on the road have damaged and cover the road surface with a sheet of mud”, another local said.

The locals lamented that they have been very vocal about the issue and have complained to the authorities quite a few times, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, residents expressed resentment against the authorities for failing to curb illegal soil excavation in the area.“For the locals, it is illegal where for the influential it is become legal. JCBs are put into service” a local said.

Meanwhile, District Mineral Officer (DMO) Kulgam said that Strict action will be taken against the persons found involved in this practice.
