Kulgam, July 9: The authorities in Kulgam district have intensified their efforts against those involved in the illegal extraction of minerals in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district and seized several vehicles, in this regard on Tuesday.
An official said that the Geology and Mining Department with the assistance of police has been carrying out raids in various locations of the district including Chowgam and Devsar during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday to curb illegal extraction of minor minerals.
“8 vehicles including one JCB machine, 6 tractors, and one seive tractor have been seized”, District Mineral Officer (DMO) Kulgam, Murtaza Bashir, told.
He said the vechicles seized during the raids have been handed over to police.
He further said that no leniency will be provided to those trying to loot natural resources and causing irreparable damage to the ecology.
