Kulgam, Apr 6: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Kulgam Police have registered 10 cases under the NDPS Act over the past three weeks, leading to the arrest of 14 drug peddlers and seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics, officials said.
Police said that out of the total FIRs, nine were registered at Police Station Qazigund and one at Police Station Devsar. During the operations, contraband including 415.61 grams of heroin, 1,348 grams of charas (including powder and charas-like substance), and 1.5 kilograms of bhang patri was recovered. Cash amounting to ₹1,37,990, believed to be proceeds of drug trade, was also seized.
Significantly, investigations into these cases led to the establishment of multiple backward and forward linkages, exposing a wider and organised narcotics network operating across districts, including connections extending to Jammu and outside the Union Territory.
Among key recoveries, police unearthed an inter-district drug syndicate in FIR No. 43/2026 after recovering 278 grams of heroin and ₹17,100 from two accused at Kurigam. Subsequent investigation led to a major recovery of 262 grams of heroin from Jammu’s Belli Chirrana area under provisions of the NDPS Act.
In another major case (FIR No. 58/2026), 125.61 grams of heroin along with ₹85,000 was seized from two accused, including one from Punjab, at Doru crossing. Other recoveries included charas, heroin, and cannabis substances from multiple locations across Qazigund and Devsar areas during naka checking and targeted raids.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), reiterated the police’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and said that strict action will continue against all those involved in the narcotics trade.
He also appealed to the public to assist police by sharing information about drug-related activities, assuring complete confidentiality to informants.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to eradicate the drug menace and stated that intensified operations against narcotics networks will continue across the district.
