Srinagar, April 5: The Traffic Police Headquarters Jammu & Kashmir has issued a public notice strictly banning the use of pressure horns across the Union Territory, warning of stringent action against violators.
The notice states that as per directions of the Supreme Court of India in the case titled Abhay Singh vs State of Uttar Pradesh & Ors., all types of pressure horns stand prohibited.
The authorities have reiterated that the use of such horns constitutes an offence under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Officials said violators can face a fine of up to ₹10,000, along with imprisonment that may extend up to six months. The ban covers air pressure horns, musical horns, reverse horns, hooters, trumpets and any device producing harsh or alarming noise beyond permissible limits.
The Traffic Police have directed vehicle owners to immediately remove such devices to ensure compliance with Rule 119 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), 1989.
Warning of strict enforcement, officials said non-compliance with the Supreme Court directives and provisions of the MV Act will invite severe action.
The department has urged the public to cooperate in curbing noise pollution and help make Jammu & Kashmir a noise-compliant region.
