
Kulgam, July 30: In its continued crackdown against illegal mining activities, Kulgam Police has seized three vehicles and apprehended three individuals involved in the unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals.
Acting on specific inputs, a police team led by the In-Charge Police Post (IC PP) Mirbazar, Toser Khan under the supervision of SSP Kulgam, ASP NHW conducted a naka checking operation at Khrewan, during which two vehicles—a JCB and a dumper—were intercepted and seized. The respective drivers were also taken into custody for engaging in mineral-related offences without legal authorization.
In a similar action, one more vehicles—tractor—were seized at a checkpoint established by the same police unit at Nowpora . The drivers of the vehicles were likewise arrested for their involvement in the illicit transportation of minerals.
Accordingly, cases have been registered at Police Station Qazigund under FIR numbers 153/2025 and 154/2025. Relevant provisions of law have been invoked, and further investigation is currently underway to unearth broader links and possible networks involved in the offence.
Kulgam Police urges the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unlawful mineral extraction and transportation activities in their vicinity. The cooperation of community members is crucial in ensuring environmental preservation and strict enforcement of the law.
