Urges people to avoid outdoor burning, campfires, and other activities; refrain from throwing cigarette bits, domesticashin forest areas; Restrict visits towards the forest areas
Kulgam, Jan 20: Due to prolonged dry weather spell this season, the risk of fire incidents especially the forest fires has severely increased. Many such incidents have been reported from Nagnard Chimmer, Ringath Khull Zradoo, Chambgund, Pranhall, and Banimullah areas of Distrct Kulgam in past few days which were controlled after hectic efforts by Quick Response Teams of Forest Dept., SDRF, Revenue and Local volunteers. Local community has played a huge role in this. In order to control the forest fire incidents;
• The District Administration is taking preventive measures to mitigate the risk associated with forest fires and is ensuring that firebreaks are well-maintained.
• Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) have been devised control forest fire and to avert any big loss to the local biodiversity.
• Forest Department in coordination with the District Disaster Management Authority, Fire and Emergency Services, & local community is working for immediate control of the fire incidences on war-footing wherever they occur.
• Watch towers/higher elevation points in the area are being utilized for quick detection of the forest fire.
However keeping in view the frequent occurrence of these incidents and subsequent loss to the green wealth, an advisory is being issued for the general public (especially for the inhabitants living near the forest areas) in order to prevent such incidents and safeguard the life and property.
1. Avoid outdoor burning, campfires, and other activities that could pose a fire risk, particularly in areas with dense vegetation.
2. Clear dry leaves and other inflammable debris from your surroundings and gardens regularly.
3. Restrict visits towards the forest areas and avoid putting the inflammable /combustible substance into the forest.
4. Exhibit extreme caution while moving with livestock in the forest areas.
5. Refrain from throwing cigarette bits, domestic ash etc. in forest areas.
6. Avoid burning of leaves, bushes, grass, stubble and debris near the forest areas.
7. Extend full cooperation to the firefighting teams during firefighting operations.
