Kulgam, Jan 29: A water filtration plant, established at Chambgund area of south Kashmiri’s Kulgam, is yet to be completed despite several years passing, leaving thousands of households yearning for potable drinking water facility.
Locals informed Voice of India that work on the plant began 10 years ago, and at that time, they were assured that the functioning plant would resolve the water scarcity issue in the area for ever.
However, despite the passing years, the assurances given to the people have not resulted in any change, and residents are left with no option but to consume unfiltered water supply.
Shafiq Ahmad, a numberdar of Kilam village said that the unfiltered water supply poses a health risk for the area.
“We are being supplied direct drinking water from the rivulet, which causes frequent infectious diseases to the residents,” he added
The locals emphasized that the filtration plant must be completed without delay so that the residents are provided with much-needed relief.
Another resident, expressed that having the plant completed and operational was a dream of the residents, hoping it would resolve all water scarcity issues.
As per the residents, the project after getting completed will cater to the needs of almost 5000 households in many villages who are using contaminated water from streams and also paying fees for that.
Meanwhile an official at Jal Shakti department, claimed that “85 per cent work of the project has been completed, emphasizing an issue faced due to ongoing sub-zero temperature, once it will over we would start work on the project, adding that remaining work would take 10-15 days; it shall be completed in March”,
