Kulgam, March 23: Government Degree College (GDC) Kulgam solemnly observed Rashtriya Shaheed Diwas to pay rich tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the freedom of the nation. The programme was organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and MY Bharat, and was conducted by the NSS Unit of the college. The event was coordinated by Mr. Adil Bashir Dar, NSS Programme Officer.

The programme commenced with the playing of the National Anthem, followed by a floral tribute to the great freedom fighters—Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Hari Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar—whose sacrifices continue to inspire generations.

On the occasion, the Principal of the college, Prof. Mohd Abas Shah, delivered an introductory address highlighting the significance of Shaheed Diwas and the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the martyrs in shaping the nation’s destiny. He urged students to imbibe the values of patriotism, dedication, and social responsibility.

A detailed lecture on the importance of Shaheed Diwas was delivered by Mr. Iqbal Shafi, who elaborated on the historical relevance of the day and emphasized the need for youth to remain committed to the ideals of justice, equality, and national integrity.

As part of the commemorative activities, an NSS-led padyatra was organized from GDC Kulgam to Kandi Pora, spreading awareness about patriotism and civic responsibility among the local community. The programme also included a campus cleanliness drive, reinforcing the message of collective responsibility towards maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, NSS volunteers, and faculty members, making it a meaningful tribute to the martyrs and a reaffirmation of the values they stood for.
