
Kulgam, Nov 10: In a major crackdown to curb illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, department of geology and mining department seized 13 vehicles In a major crackdown in Kulgam district.
An official told that a team of geology and mining department led DMO Kulgam, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad in its continuous drive and action against illegal mining, extraction and transporting of sand, Gravel, Boulders and other minerals from nallahs illegally especially in river Veshaw, and seized 13 vehicles including the vehicles of most wanted illegal miners including 4 JCB machines, involved in illegal extraction and transportation of Minerals.
When contacted, District Mineral Officer (DMO) Kulgam, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad told he would continue to take strict measures against those violating mining regulations. The seized vehicles are now under the custody of the department, and further investigations are underway to identify and prosecute those responsible for the illegal activities.
He also warned the legal miners involving illegal mining during night hours, asked them to desist from such doings or to face action.
