Srinagar, Feb 11: In a significant step towards curbing illegal drug trafficking, Srinagar Police on Tuesday said to have formally opened 53 History Sheets against habitual drug peddlers across various police stations in the district.

This action, sanctioned by the District Police Headquarters, Srinagar, marks an important move to monitor and dismantle organized drug networks operating in the region, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

He said the individuals identified in these History Sheets have a well-documented criminal history, with repeated involvement in drug-related offenses, particularly under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. “Their activities have primarily revolved around the illicit trade and distribution of narcotics, with a concerning impact on the youth of Srinagar.”

Despite multiple arrests and legal actions, these offenders have continued their illegal operations, posing a persistent threat to public safety and order, the statement reads.

“Many of them who are still behind bars are also implicated in a range of other criminal activities, including fraud, assault, and organized drug trafficking, underscoring their status as repeat offenders,” it added.

This initiative is part of intensified anti-drug operations by Srinagar Police, aimed at eliminating the drug menace from society, the statement added.

“Jammu and Kashmir Police remains committed to its mission of ensuring a drug-free environment and urges the public to support these efforts by reporting any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking,” the police spokesman said.

For any information related to drug dealers/peddlers in Srinagar, citizens are encouraged to contact the police through official helpline number 9596770550.

Together, we can build a safer and healthier Srinagar, the statement added—(KNO)
