Kulgam, Mar 28: Residents of Ganiepora in Kilam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday held a protest against the Jal Shakti Department, alleging prolonged disruption in drinking water supply for the past 20 days.

Locals said the acute shortage has badly affected daily life, forcing families to struggle for basic water needs. “There has been no water in our taps for nearly three weeks. We are facing serious difficulties, especially our children who are suffering due to lack of water,” said a resident.

The protesters gathered in Kilam and raised slogans, demanding immediate restoration of water supply and a permanent resolution to the issue.

Meanwhile, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Qazigund assured that steps are being taken to restore supply at the earliest, adding that while temporary restoration will be done soon, a long-term solution requires realignment of the pipeline.

“Nearly three kilometers of the pipeline falls under the main road, which is causing frequent disruptions. A proposal has been submitted under the SASCI scheme for its realignment. Once approved, the issue will be resolved permanently,” he said.
